Loving yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your well-being and overall happiness. Unfortunately, many of us struggle with self-love, and finding ways to increase it can be difficult (it also happened to me a few years ago). However, the good news is that with a little effort, you can learn to love yourself 7x more than yesterday. Here are some practical tips to help you get started.
1. Practice self-care regularly
Self-care is a crucial part of loving yourself. This means taking the time to focus on your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. A few activities on how to practice your self-care are:
Here are some self-care activities that you can try:
- Do exercise regularly e.g. swimming, running or just fun walking, and eat a healthy diet. You may find a healthy recipe here, don’t forget to get enough sleep, and stay hydrated by drinking water (the term “water” here means mineral water, not soda or coffee)
- Practice mindfulness and meditation. You can join a meditation group in your city, connect with friends and family, do a call with them a minimum of twice a week, and do activities that bring you joy.
- Engage in learning and personal growth opportunities, challenge negative thoughts and prioritize time for relaxation and stress-management techniques.
- Do you have hobbies? Pursue your hobbies, take up a new craft, or express yourself through art or writing (well, I like to play violin as my hobbies 馃槀)
2. Surround yourself with positive people
Surrounding yourself with positive people is an important aspect of self-care and personal growth. Positive people bring joy, support and encouragement into your life. It can also help you look on the bright side of things, overcome challenges, and pursue goals. To surround yourself with positive people, you can start by identifying those who bring positive feelings into your life and spending more time with them.
You can also seek out new relationships by joining clubs, groups, or organizations that match your interests and values. It’s also important to have positive self-talk and avoid negative people who will let you down. Surrounding yourself with positive people builds a supportive network that helps you live a happy and fulfilling life.
3. Practice gratitude
Practicing gratitude means focusing on the good things in your life and expressing gratitude for them. It can help you feel more positive, improve your relationships, and increase your overall well-being. To practice gratitude, you can start by writing down what you are grateful for and creating a daily gratitude list. It can be anything from small pleasures in life like a hot cup of tea to big things like the love and support of family.
Another way she puts gratitude into practice is by writing thank you letters to people who have made a positive impact in your life. You can also practice gratitude by actively seeking out experiences that bring you joy and making time to savor them. By practicing gratitude every day, you will soon find yourself more focused on the present moment and more grateful for the good things in life.聽

4. Set boundaries
Boundaries help us determine what is acceptable and unacceptable, both in our relationships with others and with ourselves. Now, in order to set your boundaries, you may start by identifying your strengths, beliefs, and needs. Once you have a clear understanding of these, you can practice clearly communicating your boundaries to others and saying “NO” (take note: a big NO) to things that don’t align with your values. They might angry because of your rejection, but don’t worry, this is for your kindness.
Then, try to schedule your time for self-care activities (see point no. 1), avoid negative soliloquy, and avoid excessive or excessive exercise. Remember that setting boundaries are not about being selfish or rigid, but about creating a healthy balance and caring about your own well-being.
5. Learn to forgive yourself
Learning to forgive yourself is a difficult (I often feel it) but important step on the path to self-improvement and personal growth. Forgiveness begins with acknowledging and accepting your mistakes and shortcomings. Instead of dealing with them and beating yourself up, try to see them as opportunities for growth and learning. Practicing self-compassion and treating yourself with kindness and understanding also helps.
Try rephrasing your negative self-talk and replacing it with positive affirmations, for example rising your vibration.
This YouTube video is giving you an example of how to raise your vibration.
Another important aspect of forgiveness is letting go of resentment and negative feelings about yourself. This can be done through visualization techniques, mindfulness practices, or therapy as appropriate. Remember that forgiving yourself is not about condoning harmful behavior, but about recognizing it, taking responsibility for it, and moving forward in a positive direction. Remember, do not look behind. You can learn to forgive and move towards a healthier, happier life.
6. Practice self-compassion
Practicing self-compassion is about treating yourself with the same kindness, care, and understanding that you would show a good friend. It involves acknowledging and accepting our own mistakes and limitations, and approaching our mistakes and failures with understanding and grace.
To practice, you may try to start by paying attention to your thoughts and feelings and recognizing when you are overly critical or prejudiced of yourself. Instead, try talking to yourself in a caring and understanding tone, it is like you talk with someone, but in this case, you are talking with yourself. I usually do this in front of my mirror. Just remember, everyone makes mistakes and has setbacks. Be kind to yourself and remember that it’s okay to be kind. Focus on your strengths and positive qualities. Sometimes, you may celebrate your successes, no matter how small it is.
7. Celebrate your successes and accomplishments
Celebrate your success! Yes, for me, it is like a reward for what I did. It helps you recognize your hard work and effort, take pride in yourself, and maintain a positive attitude. This can range from small achievements like completing a project at work or cooking a delicious meal to big milestones like graduating from college or getting a new job.
It’s important to take the time to reflect on your accomplishments and be grateful for them. This can be done in various ways; buy yourself a thing that you have dreamed of, eat at a fancy restaurant, or do some traveling. I often celebrate my accomplishment by buying a thing that I wanted for a long time ago hahaha. Celebrating successes and accomplishments is a great way to boost self-confidence and self-esteem, it can help you stay motivated and inspired on your personal growth journey.
